Band and Music Electives

At Letha Raney Intermediate School Music Education is a vital part of the learning experience for our students.  The music program at Raney has long been a source of great pride for our entire school community. Our program has a number of goals for the middle school music student including:

  1. The development of musical skills and knowledge about the history and practice of music making.
  2. The development of positive social interaction through music.
  3. To become comfortable with and find enjoyment in music and performance.
  4. The performance of music for the community as a whole.

Students have several opportunities to develop their unique musical talents by making music while at the same time enriching others through a variety of musical performances scheduled throughout the school year.

Students with prior band experience of at least one year may join the advanced band. Advanced Band is a graded class that meets at 7:00 AM every day that school is in session.  Sign up for Adv. Band HERE

Students who have never played an instrument before or who wish to learn how to play a new instrument may join the beginning band. Beginning Band and 6th Grade Band are graded classes that meet during the school day.

General Music

General Music is an elective class during the school day where students learn about musical instruments and genres from across the globe and how these have influenced the music we enjoy today.  Many of the music topics discussed coincide with national awareness months, such as Hispanic Heritage Month, Native American Heritage Month, Black History Month, Women's History Month,  Arab American Heritage Month, and AAPI Heritage Month.
